Our Holistic Approach
The Community Wellness Program offers opportunities for participants to enhance health and well-being through arts of expression, healthy cooking classes, relaxation strategies, peer coach, and much more. Through our health and wellness licensed instructors, we offer a wide variety of fun and engaging classes. Please see our calendar of events for a current schedule of wellness classes and other activities. All the programs and services we offer are open to all.
Why a wellness program?
It has been proven that peer support and arts of expression can be healing for our soul through creativity and self-reflection. It lowers stress and provides mental clarity that enables us to connect to the world.
Objective - Our aim is to create an intimate setting to Empower women of all walks of life by helping them change habits and behaviors connected to lupus.
Our goal is to provide a holistic approach that utilizes movements, nutrition, and self-care.
This will cause less frequent doctor visits; reduce the amount of medication; and provide tools that help individuals control emotions that trigger lupus flares.
Components of the program
The Community Wellness Program is an ongoing program that meets for 45 minutes to one hour per week for 6 weeks. Currently, due to COVID our classes and workshop are virtual / ordinarily they are in convenient community locations. Each session will enroll ten women per six-week session, to work on their personal health plan.
Workshops & Activities include:
• Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation.
• Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance.
• Appropriate use of medications/ managing depression
• Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals.
• Yoga- Relaxing / breathing techniques.
• Healthy eating habits.
• Wellness journal
• Creative arts of Expression
